Fantasy/ Science Fiction Questions

 Today in class Mr. Davidson asked us to reply to the following three questions, so I'm going to try and answer them in this post. 

1. Do you like to read fantasy or Science Fiction? why or why not? 

2. What fantasy or Science fiction location from a Novel is your favorite? would you want to go there yourself? why or why not? 

    I have enjoyed reading Fantasy and Sci-fi novels since I was in grade school. I started with books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. One of my favorite parts about fantasy and sci-fi novels is the familiarity and difference that these worlds can have, like in Harry Potter, where things like paintings and stairs aren't even fully what they seem. Or in sci-fi novels, which have tons of futuristic technology, and some things that would make life so much easier.

If I could go to any location from any fantasy or sci-fi novel, I'd have to choose Hogwarts from Harry Potter. I know that it is a pretty overused location, but the reason I want to see it is because of all of the secret passageways and other things that can be found throughout the castle. I'd also want to explore the forest and the rest of the grounds, as there is so much to see and do at the castle, even without all of the magic.

Ted Talk Reflection

       As a yearly wrap-up project for this year’s Contemporary Literature class, Mr. Davidson tasked the whole class to each make a Ted Talk on a topic they believe in or know a lot about. I decided to do “Traditions Are Important” for my topic, mainly because I had recently used my family's tamale making tradition for my Michigan college Essay on communities. However, the process was a lot harder than I initially thought, and I hope that this reflection will help illustrate that journey.   What I Knew   Going into this project, the only tradition that really came to my head when I thought about it was my family’s tamale making tradition . Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore Review

  *SPOILER ALERT      Mr. Penumbr as 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan has received a lot of praise from many different publications and is also a New York Times bestseller. The story follows the perspective of Clay Jannon, a website designer who lost his j ob at a startu p due to the Great R ecession. While trying to find another job so that he can pay his bills, Clay stumbles on a For Hire sign in the window of a bookstore. Upon entering, Clay meets Mr. Penumbra, the eccentric owner of the bookstore who hires him to work the night shift. Although there weren’t many customers, Clay did start to notice some weird things going on in the store.
